North Webster Community Public Library Announces Upcoming Events
NORTH WEBSTER — While coloring Easter eggs is a fun tradition for many families, Faye Myers’s family takes decorating Easter eggs to a whole new level. Come and watch her create traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs at 3 p.m. Monday, March 19, at North Webster Community Public Library.
Using the pysanky method, she will demonstrate this traditional Ukrainian folk art that she learned from her father, which was passed down from his father, a Polish immigrant. Come and learn how it’s done and perhaps add a new tradition to your family’s Easter.
Earlier that day Writer’s Corner will meet at 10 a.m. Participants were assigned to write a war related story, and they will share their writings at Monday’s meeting. Each month the group is given a writing assignment about a specific subject, and then meets to share what they have written and exchange ideas and encouragement. If you enjoy writing, join Writer’s Corner during the third Monday of each month.
Does your child like to read aloud or perhaps they could use some practice? Sign them up for Paws-To-Read, held from 4 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday. Reading to Echo, a registered therapy dog, is a fun way to practice their oral reading skills. Echo doesn’t care if a child stumbles or mispronounces a word. She just loves to listen. To schedule a private 15-minute reading session with Echo, contact the Youth Services Desk. Reading sessions are by appointment only.
If your child is the one who likes to listen, bring them to Crafts and Stories, also held 4 p.m. every Tuesday. Children listen to stories while making crafts. It’s a fun and constructive after school activity for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. No registration is needed. Parents are asked to remain in the library during the activity.
Grab and Go Bags are now available in the Youth Services Department. Each bag is filled with 10 books. Some bags are themed with books pertaining to a specific subject while other bags are designed for Accelerated Reader reading levels. It’s a fast and convenient way for busy families to select and check out books. Grab, go and read.
