Summer Workshop Series Teaching Tower Gardening
KOSCIUSKO — Kosciusko County 4-H, in partnership with Purdue Extension Master Gardener, Steve Koontz and Warsaw Community Schools, will be hosting a summer workshop series teaching hands-on tower gardening to youth in grades 3-6. Youth will meet weekly in May and June to plant and maintain their lettuce and other vegetables in the tower gardens owned by Warsaw Community Schools. Koontz has been working in several Warsaw elementary school classrooms teaching kids how to garden using this non-traditional method, and he is excited to partner with Kosciusko County 4-H to offer this experience to any interested youth—they need not be students of Warsaw schools.
Participation in the program will include hands-on STEM experiences, an opportunity to showcase learning at the Kosciusko County Community Fair and every opportunity of a 4-H member, including other local camps and workshops.
Workshops will be held from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary School, Winona Lake, on Tuesdays May 15, May 29, June 5, June 12, June 19 and June 26. Educational showcase opportunities are available to participants at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 10, during the community fair.
Registration is $20 and includes 4-H membership and all supplies. It is due May 1 to the Purdue Extension Office. You can download the form here or call (574) 372-2340.
