Construction Of Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Station Three Making Progress
WARSAW — Fire Chief Mike Wilson shared a positive update regarding the construction of Station 3 at the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory meeting held yesterday, March 27.
Construction has been progressing at Station 3 with the wood truss framing and apparatus bay walls being worked on recently. Work on the roofing and HVAC system will take place in April.
“We are doing really well,” commented Wilson. “Even with the weather, they had enough days built in here that they’re catching up.”
Based on the current scheduled, final inspections on the construction will take place at the end of July with the final turn-over of the building happening in August.
The board approved two pay applications to Mosaic Building Solutions regarding the construction for the amounts of $111,672 and $407,511.90.
The board spent most of the meeting discussing a request for permission to advance with the design of an apparatus to replace Squad 13-4. The current Squad 13-4 was built in 2008 and has 74,729 miles on it. Wilson explained that the particular design of the apparatus is no longer used and the department has experienced many issues with it including tire and frame problems.
Based on Wilson’s replacement schedule, Squad 13-4 was projected to be replaced in 2019. The process to design and build an apparatus can take over a year to complete.
The board approved moving forward with the design and research phases of the replacement. The equipment replacement committee will begin looking at designs and attending conferences to see which design would best fit the community. Once a design is chosen, the board will then look at the financial aspects of a possible replacement. Nothing can be bought or paid for without the board’s permission.
