Trojans Rally Past Eagles
BOURBON – A strong second-half performance rallied Triton past Elkhart Christian Thursday night in non-conference boys basketball action.
The Trojans outscored the Eagles 29-18 in the second half to post a 44-37 victory.
Triton trailed 19-15 at halftime before rallying in the final 16 minutes. The hosts hit 15-of-22 free throws in the win, while Elkhart Christian was just 3-of-10 from the stripe.
The Trojans were playing without senior star Clay Yeo. The Valparaiso University recruit and Indiana All-Star candidate missed the game due to a concussion. Yeo is averaging 29 points-per-game this season.
Tanner Shepherd led Triton with 18 points, connecting on four treys in the victory. Cody Shively netted 10 points and Joey Corder eight.
The Trojans, who have beaten Elkhart Christian 11 straight times, improved to 6-3 with their fourth straight win.
The Eagles, who saw their five-game winning streak snapped, drop to 5-2.
Elkhart Christian was playing its first game without Cory Waycaster. The junior, who was the team’s second-leading scorer and top rebounder, has withdrawn from school due to financial reasons and will be enrolling at Jimtown.
Junior Ryan Kupferschmid poured in a game-high 19 points to pace the Eagles Thursday night.
Elkhart Christian won the junior varsity contest 36-25.
Triton (6-3) hosts NSC foe Glenn Saturday night. Elkhart Christian (5-2) plays at Lakeland Christian Academy tonight (Jan. 4).
