Pierceton Days 2018 Cancelled, Confusion On Event’s Continuation
PIERCETON — The Pierceton Town Council heard Pierceton Days organizer Kim Rose’s announcement regarding the cancellation of Pierceton Days 2018.
At the meeting held Monday, April 9, Rose stated that there would be no Pierceton Days this summer as she wanted to take a break from running the event.
A post on the Pierceton Days Festival Facebook page states that “there are behind the scenes reasons that the festival will not take place this year. Small town festivals work best and honestly only work when all parts of the community support it and get behind it.”
However, on the social media page, several Pierceton residents have spoken on the matter, saying that they will make sure the event happens in August 2018.
The administrator for the festival’s Facebook page commented on a post, stating that “it’s not as simple as just someone else doing it. There are other factors that weigh in.”
In other business, the council discussed investing in Axon camera systems for the town’s police cars. One of the vehicle’s audio recording systems isn’t functioning.
Currently officers have Axon body cameras and are interested in getting the same equipment for their vehicles.
The board decided that it would wait to make a decision until pricing for the systems was presented.
Town marshal Tim Sammons also said the department has received applications for reserve officers and is currently in the selection process.
The board also stated that it would consider replacing one of the town’s police vehicles. The vehicle is 10 years old.
