NorthWood Sports Wrap: April 19
Baseball
A change in venue did not affect Alec Holcomb in the least.
The NorthWood pitcher fired a no-hitter in pitching the Panthers past Concord 13-0 in five innings.
NorthWood blanked the Minutemen in the Northern Lakes Conference game moved to Wawasee due to field conditions at NorthWood.
Holcomb allowed just one walk while fanning nine in his dominating performance on the hill.
The Panthers scored a single run in the first and then added five more tallies in both the second and third frames en route to the league win. Matt Dutkowski, Holcomb, Payton Bear and Brock Miller all drove in runs in the third inning.
Dutkowski led the offense for the Panthers with two hits and six RBI. He had a sacrifice fly in the first, a homer in the second and a single in the third.
Sawyer Warren drew three walks and scored four runs for NorthWood. Kyle Hauptil also drew three walks and Brant Mast had a hit and an RBI.
NorthWood returns to NLC action at Wawasee Friday evening.
Boys Golf
The NorthWood boys golf team picked up a win over Elkhart Central.
Caleb Lung shot a 43 to pace the Panthers to a 178-201 over the Blue Blazers in their season opener at the Christiana Creek Golf Club in Elkhart.
The foursome of Sean Hogan, Taylor Weiland, Randy Kauffman and Jacob Falk each shot a 45 for NorthWood in the non-confrence win.
The NorthWood JV team topped Central 205-242. Micah Pippenger led the winners with a 48. Liam Hammond shot a 50, while Jon Cripe had a 53, Keaton Kitson 54 and Noah Schwartz 55 for the JV Panthers.
Softball
The NorthWood softball team dropped a 3-0 final at Concord.
The hosts scored twice in the first inning and added a run in the second frame to blank the Panthers in Northern Lakes Conference action.
NorthWood outhit the Minutemen 4-2, but had five errors in the contest.
Halle DeMien had two hits and Alexis Klotz and Kylie Thornton each had one for the Panthers.
NorthWood hosts Wawasee in another NLC game Friday evening.
Boys Track
The NorthWood boys track team dropped a pair of conference meets to Memorial and Concord.
Concord defeated the Panthers 89-43 and Memorial topped NorthWood 86-46 in the Northern Lakes Conference triangular. Concord edged past Memorial 67-65.
The Panthers picked up three individual wins on the night. Bronson Yoder won the long jump with a leap of 22-7. Terrell Pratcher claimed first in the 200 in a top time of 22.77. Garrett Anglemeyer won the shot put with a throw of 44-10.25.
Pratcher was als second in the long jump. Brayton Yoder was second in the 100, while Brock Lehman was second in the 400 and Jason Borkholder was second in the high jump.
NorthWood will compete in the Goshen Relays on Saturday.
