UPDATE: Bicyclist Struck By SUV
Warsaw Police responded to the intersection of Argonne Road and Market Street at approximately 3:45 p.m. to a 9-1-1 call. Officers and arriving rescue personnel located a 2009 Lincoln Navigator at the intersection, as well as Sturgill injured and lying on the ground. She was flown to Fort Wayne in serious condition with injuries to her abdomen and legs.
Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigators advised that the driver of the Lincoln Navigator, Ana Lousia Malagon, 24, Warsaw, was apparently travelling eastbound on Market Street and had stopped at the intersection of Argonne Road. Malagon began to turn left onto Argonne Road when she apparently did not see Sturgill crossing through the intersection westbound.
Investigating officers determined through Indiana BMV files that Malagon’s driver’s license was currently suspended. She was subsequently arrested and preliminarily charged with felony driving while suspended and causing serious bodily injury. The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office set her bond at $2,000 but she has since bonded out of the Kosciusko County Jail.
Lutheran Hospital advised this morning that Sturgill is currently in stable/fair condition with her injuries.
The Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team stated that the crash is still under investigation at this time pending state mandatory blood testing. The F.A.C.T. team was assisted by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, Multi-Township E.M.S., Warsaw Police and Fire Departments, and the Indiana State Police.
