Warsaw Man Sentenced On Charges Related To High Speed Chase
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was sentenced in two separate cases Monday, April 30, in Kosciusko Circuit Court.
In 43C01-1801-F6-000071, Miguel Raymond Castro, 24, 501 N. Harrison St., Warsaw, pleaded guilty to charges of count I possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; count II resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony; and count III driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor.
On the evening of Sept. 26, 2017, the Warsaw Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Park Avenue. During the attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver of the green Buick disregarded the stop sign and took off at a high rate of speed eastbound on Market Street.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the driver of the vehicle continued to Argonne Road where he disregarded a stop sign and struck a northbound van. The driver, Castro, fled on foot. The vehicle then rolled into a parked vehicle in front of 202 Argonne Road, with the female passenger still inside. The vehicle was secured, and Castro and his female passenger were taken into custody.
Castro admitted to throwing narcotics/narcotic paraphernalia out the window of his vehicle. He also dropped a bag containing methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia in the area where he was taken into custody. Castro admitted to ingesting methamphetamine prior to being taken into custody.
Judge Michael Reed sentenced Castro to one year at the Indiana Department of Corrections for the charge of possession of methamphetamine, one year at IDOC for the charge of resisting law enforcement and 180 days in the Kosciusko County Jail for the charge of driving while suspended. Sentences in counts II and III were ordered to be served concurrently but consecutive to the sentence in count I.
Castro was ordered to pay court costs and fines and a minimum $200 drug interdiction fee. His driver’s license was ordered to be suspended for 180 days upon his release. Terms of restitution were left open for further review.
In the case of 43C01-F5-789, Castro was found guilty of count I resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony; count II possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; and count V failure to stop after an accident, a class B misdemeanor.
Reed sentenced Castro to one and a half years at Indiana Department of Corrections for the charge of resisting law enforcement, one and a half years at IDOC for the charge of possession of methamphetamine and 180 days in the Kosciusko County Jail for the charge of failure to stop after an accident. Sentences for counts I and V will be served concurrently but consecutive to the sentence in count II and consecutive to the sentences in case F671. He was ordered to pay court costs and fees. Castro was given jail time credit of 43 days.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, two other charges were dismissed.
