Girls Tennis
The Warsaw girls tennis team continued its perfect run through the conference Tuesday night.
The Tigers used a singles sweep to top NorthWood 4-1 in Northern Lakes Conference play on the Warsaw courts.
The trio of Liza Lewis, Ella Knight and Alyssa Zellers all posted straight set wins to pace coach Rick Orban’s team to the league win.
Senior Lewis defeated Reegan Miller 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles action. Senior Knight topped Gretchen Adams 6-2, 6-3 on the No. 2 singles court. Sophomore Zellers defeated Lauren Mikel 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 to finish out singles play.
The duo of Rachel Boyle and Reagan Merchant notched the fourth point at No. 2 doubles. The team topped Olivia Feller and Riley Graber 6-3, 7-5.
NorthWood picked up its point on the No. 1 doubles court as the sensational senior tandem of Kennedy Wiens and Betsy Nunemaker beat Taylor Shoaf and Rachel Yeager 6-3, 6-0.
Warsaw improves to 9-3 overall and moves to 5-0 in NLC play. The Tigers play at NLC foe Concord Wednesday at 5 p.m. Concord improved to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in the NLC with a 5-0 conference win over Northridge Tuesday night. Warsaw then hosts Goshen in its final NLC match May 7. The NLC Tournament is set for May 9-11.
The Warsaw junior varsity won 8-1 Tuesday. Winning in singles play for the JV Tigers were Libby Jenkins, Maddie Ray, Kat Josellis and Mikayla Roller. Also winning were the doubles teams of Amy Herendeen and Addison Marshall, Anna Grill and Izzy Ray, Annie Burnett and Katrielle Rodgers and Jaya Panicker and Charlotte Grandon.
Winning for the NorthWood JV was the doubles duo of Paige Henschen and Abigail Richner.
The NorthWood varsity is now 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the NLC. The Panthers play at NLC foe Wawasee on Wednesday.
Boys Golf
The hosts had the most.
Host Warsaw came away with the team title in its own annual Joe Harris Golf Shootout.
The Tigers finished with a team total of 320 to win the championship of the eight-team tournament held at the Rozella Ford Golf Course.
Senior Luke Delp earned individual runner-up honors as he shot a 75 to lead Warsaw to the title.
Seniors Sam Yeager and Tommy Meier shot 79 and 80 respectively for the Tigers. Senior Jacob LaLonde finished with an 86 and junior Chase Byron an 87 for the champs.
NorthWood’s Caleb Lung earned medalist honors as the senior shot a 73.
Fort Wayne Canterbury was second with a 330 with Culver Academy third with a 333. Triton was fourth with a 338, followed by NorthWood (341), Plymouth (354), Rochester (372) and the Warsaw JV team (372).
Freshman Tucker Carlile led the Warsaw JV with an 84. Zach LaLonde shot 93, Brian Elliott 94, Noah Pequignot 101 and Mason Whitaker 120 for the Tiger JV squad.
Isaac Wall led the way for Triton as he shot a round of 82. Beau Hepler finished with an 84 for the Trojans, while Ross Johnson and Brock Watkins each shot an 86. Chase Butler had an 88 for Triton.
Warsaw will host the NLC Tournament on May 19 at Stonehenge. The Tigers then also host the sectional on June 1 at Rozella Ford and the regional on June 7 at Stonehenge.
The Warsaw varsity will compete in the Brownsburg Invitational on Saturday. The Warsaw JV team hosts its own invitational on Saturday back at Rozella Ford. Triton plays in the LaVille Invitational at the Plymouth Country Club on Saturday.
