Valley Softball: Vikings Get the ‘W’ Versus Marion
AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley’s softball team got back on the winning track with a 7-6 win over visiting Marion Thursday.
The Vikings plated five runs in the third to break the game open, 6-0. Marion responded with a four-run fourth, then tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh, but Kayla Scott held on for the win.
Scott gave up four earned runs off six hits and two walks with two strikeouts lasting relieving starter Syndey Howard in the fourth after Howard threw 3 2/3 innings of six-hit, two-run ball.
Alex Gomez homered and doubled while driving in four runs and scored another two as part of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Ally Betten finished 3 for 4 at the plate with a run and two RBIs, and Howard, Scott and Amy Baca each collected two hits in the win.
Valley moves to 5-11 and will play a doubleheader at Central Noble Saturday.
