Barbara Sue Essig
Barbara Sue Essig, 45, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, surrounded by her loving family in her home.
She was born March 31, 1967, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Joseph Westendorf and Dorothy (Bennett) Westendorf. She graduated in 1985 from Warsaw Community Schools and lived most of her life in the Warsaw, Ind., and Winona Lake areas. She married Eric Essig on Aug. 19, 1989, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw.
Barbara was a teacher’s aide at Sacred Heart School for 10 years. She also assisted at J-3/Making Waves Salon. She enjoyed gardening and rock picking, was a life-long Tippecanoe Lake lover, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed the children at Sacred Heart. She cherished family time and evening golf companionship with her husband, Eric.
Barbara is survived by her husband; two sons: Evan Essig, Winona Lake; Jared Essig, Winona Lake; her parents; a brother: Doug (Bev) Westendorf, North Manchester, Ind.; five sisters: Deb (Terry) Frank, Tenn.; Kim (Don) Trammel, Leesburg, Ind.; Nancy Westendorf, Leesburg; JoAnn (Jeff) Brown, North Webster, Ind.; Michelle (Chris) Davis, Nappanee, Ind.; as well as 17 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister: Lori Westendorf; and a brother: Joey Westendorf.
Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw. Father Phil DeVolder of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Pierceton, Ind.
