Lake City Toastmasters Reaches 29 Years Of Shaping Lives
WINONA LAKE — Lake City Toastmasters will mark its 29th anniversary on June 1.
In honor of the occasion, a special meeting will be held from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. June 7 at the Grace College campus in the William Male Center on Rupe Drive. Members of the public are invited to this special event and to learn more about Toastmasters. Since 1989, the club has been dedicated to helping people become better speakers and leaders.
“Lake City Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to overcome their fear of public speaking and sharpen presentation skills,” says Jean Wolfe, president of Lake City Toastmasters. “Other benefits include the opportunity to increase one’s confidence, build critical thinking skills and become an effective listener.”
Richard “Doc” Brungardt, the club’s oldest member and Toastmaster since 1991, shares his experience.
“When I first joined Toastmasters, it was the supportive environment and accomplishment recognition that I really liked—and needed. That encouraged me to stay a member, make new friends, join more clubs, and repeat all of the above many times. As my skills and confidence improved, my career as a veterinarian flourished. Now, I really like helping others find and develop their potential and achieve their goals. This Toastmasters program continues to be very rewarding to me.”
Serena Case, public relations manager for District 11 and club secretary, has been a Toastmaster for two years and joined originally because she felt she lacked confidence when speaking in front of crowds and to management.
“I love the unconditional love and support that our Toastmasters club provides me and every one of our members,” said Case. “With these amazing people by my side, I feel I can do anything—face my fears, speak uncomfortable truths, learn, grow, and thrive.”
After a brief meet-and-great period starting at 5:15 p.m., members and guests will enjoy a regular Toastmasters meeting that will include a presentation, Table Topics (impromptu speeches), and evaluations. Networking will follow where members will share how Toastmasters is helping them achieve their personal and professional goals. They will also be available to answer questions.
Free refreshments, guest packets, door prizes and anniversary fun will be provided. Free parking is available on the premises and the location is easily accessible. Register on Eventbrite for your chance at a door prize.
