Lakeland Art Gallery To Host Exhibit Featuring Timothy Tyree
By Darla McCammon
KOSCIUSKO — Lakeland Art Gallery finishes this month with the “Small Wonders” exhibit and moves into an exhibit featuring Timothy Tyree.
Warsaw City Hall Gallery continues to be blessed with the amazing work of Don Sheline. Lakeland is located at 302 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw. You can visit from the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The gallery is managed largely by volunteers and always has new items and art work for those who like the idea of owning or gifting original treasures.
The Tyree exhibit will open July 5 at Lakeland Gallery. He hails from Ohio and lists his awards and accomplishments on no less than three pages of honors. His work ranges from 2D to 3D, to very modern, along with an unusual assortment of layering and texturizing. His unusual and breathtaking work will be on exhibit at Lakeland Art Gallery for the entire month of July.
I was especially taken with the painting titled “Cacti.” It involves significant depth of color, definitive contrast and certainly inspires one to imagine a cactus plant in full glory. Other work is more abstract, such as his “American Frame.” Other pieces such as “Engine” offer a posterized view of old railroad days you will find mesmerizing.
“I am an artist keenly interested in contemporary visual expression,” said Tyree. He does indeed stretch the norms in creativity and gives our brains a new visual perspective to enjoy.
Once you have visited the Tyree exhibit, please add a short distance to your itinerary and drive over to the Warsaw City Hall Courthouse at the corner of Buffalo and Center Streets. Park behind the building and enter the main hall, then go through the adjoining “clock room” to see a wonderful selection of paintings by Don Sheline. His work is attractive to just about everyone, but if you like old automobiles and are a car history enthusiast, you will especially like his watercolor and chrome renditions of antique vehicles.
At 86 years of age, Sheline is interested in meeting more of his fans and is offering his work at specially reduced prices during this exhibit to ensure that his lovely work will end up in the hands of good fans and admirers. This work is an investment and extremely well done. He will be there in person each Friday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
And in addition to all this, he is offering a free painting each Friday afternoon for those who have entered their name for this drawing. Winners thus far have been Penny Lutes, who won on June 8, and Karen Smith, who won on June 15. You owe it to yourself to go visit both of these exhibits.
I recently was gratified to see that Robert Hudson has enriched the world by becoming a writer of novels. You will learn more about him in some upcoming columns, but meanwhile, he is having a book signing at his studio on June 23. Check his website for more information
