UPDATE: Wind Chill Resulting In Delays
The National Weather Service office in Syracuse has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Kosciusko County which is in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Wind chill readings tonight through tomorrow morning will drop to between 12 below and 18 below zero. Winds out of the west are expected from 10 mph to 20 mph bringing air temperatures in the single digits.
Because of the extreme cold temperatures, area schools are beginning to announce two-hour delays for Tuesday morning. As of 8 p.m., Wawasee Community Schools and Triton School Corporation and South Central Community Schools have issued delays. As more schools begin to report, click on our weather and closings link located at the top of each page.
Prolonged exposure to such bitter cold temperatures can lead to frost bite on exposed skin and can cause hypothermia. If you must go outside, be sure to cover all exposed areas.
Additionally, the National Weather Service is forecasting lake effect snow will develop today. Accumulations of between 2 inches and 5 inches of snow are possible through Tuesday night.
