WCPL Welcomes Hicks To Library Board
WARSAW — The ongoing issue of limited use, limited access elevator, as well as the popularity of the Summer Reading Program and the official welcome of yet another new board member were three of the issues discussed Monday, July 9 at the regular monthly meeting of the Warsaw Community Public Library board.
“Two months of June and July of last year, we have surpassed in one month,” said Library Director Ann Zydek. “So, as we have 1,876 participants in our Summer Reading Program, and of that amount, 1,145 are children. So, that’s pretty cool and the teens have been very busy this year. We have 297 teens registered.”
The board welcomed incoming board member Jennifer Hicks, who was appointed by the Kosciusko County Council last month as the latest member of the board. Hicks joins Tim Keyes, who began his tenure at last month’s meeting. The two were added to the panel to replace outgoing board members Sherri Dalyrmple and Paulette Sauders.
The library’s LULA elevator is several decades old and the board has been discussing the piece of equipment for several months. The elevator has been working only on an intermittent basis in 2018 and broke down 11 times in 2017.
“I had hoped, on the LULA elevator, that we would have something to present to you at this time,” said Facilities Manager Bruce Hively. “However, it’s been a little harder to get quotes from people on this elevator. I’m not sure whether it’s because of a lot of work going on at the moment or because it’s going to be using the existing shaft. We have one and we will have another bid. We went out with three but the third company has not responded to phone calls or emails so I take it they’re not interested. It still looks encouraging. I think the number that Ann has shared with you in the past has been under $150,000. I still think we’re not going to be any higher than that.”
