Park Foundation Reviews The Little Things
SYRACUSE — The park foundation met Tuesday, July 24. The evening was spent overlooking recently completed or almost completed projects in the parks.
Dr. Tom Edington inquired how the trees at Laudeman Park are holding up through the dry spell, to which Chad Jonsson replied more than likely two are not going to make it, adding they are being watered regularly. Having 25 out of 30 trees live through the year would be good.
Edington reviewed the finances for the trails and the park foundation, everything of which is in good standing. He commented taxes for organizations like the park foundation aren’t due until May 15, but an extension was filed for it to be completed within six months.
Jonsson reported on the Syracuse Community Center endowment fund. The fund is primarily used for large repairs on the community center. Other donations have been used to make repairs, but Jonsson sees the fund being accessed for repairs within the next few years such as replacing the roof. Edington recommended a metal roof as shingles only last for so long.
The Tour des Lakes bike ride brought in a record number of riders despite the heat, turning out to be a nice day for all riders.
While the Lakeside Park restrooms are operational, there are still little things that need to be finished. Dan Buchman asked if they are locked at all at the end of the night. The restrooms do lock but have yet to be completed with the metal locks that would automatically lock at a certain time, similar to Crosson Mill.
Park visitors have been happy with the new location of the restrooms.
