Lancers Have Pair Named To CL Weekly Honors
AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of August 20 through 26. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.
A pair from Grace College were among the noted. Women’s soccer goalkeeper Bethany Blackwood won Defensive Player of the Week in her first week of college soccer. The freshman was part of a pair of shutouts for the Lady Lancers, making eight saves in a pair of wins over Grand View and Graceland.
Kelsee Zuidema was named the Attacker of the Week in volleyball. Zuidema averaged 3.8 kills per set with a blistering .310 hitting percentage to help Grace win three-of-four matches over the weekend. Zuidema also became Grace’s tenth player to surpass 1,000-career kills.
Others on the list from the Crossroads League include Gabriel Greenfield and Matheus Louzada of Huntington as Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week, respectively. Spring Arbor’s Bethany Balcer was named the Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Samantha Korn of Taylor and Maria Pelak of St. Francis were the Volleyball Defender and Setter of the Week, respectively, and Bethel’s Emili Runestad was the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
