NorthWood’s boys tennis team earned a 5-0 sweep of visiting Elkhart Memorial in a Northern Lakes Conference match in Nappanee Thursday evening.
West Troyer topped Chris Troyer, 6-0, 6-1 at 1 singles, Ben Vincent put away Luke Leazenby 6-1, 6-1 at 2 singles, and Landon Holland shut out Jesus Hernandez 6-0, 6-0.
Trajan Schwartz and Jack Wysong downed Brandon Bailey and Mike Troyer 7-5, 6-3 at 1 doubles in the closest match of the evening, and Grant Topping and Dawson Bley were 6-0, 6-2 winners over Zach Olena and Garrett Culp at 2 doubles.
The Panthers also won their JV match, 3-0.
NorthWood’s varsity moved to 4-2 overall with a 1-1 NLC record.
CONCORD 5, WAWASEE 0
Wawasee suffered a tough 5-0 NLC loss on the road at Concord Thursday.
Colin Rhoades fell 6-1, 6-2 to Cal Whitaker at 3 singles, Graham Perek lost 6-0, 6-1 to Freedy Buckingham at 2 singles, and Zach Leedy lost a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Alex Serwatka at 1 singles.
Jacob Krugman and Grant Brooks lost to Travis Hermon and Nate Slabach 6-0, 6-1 at 1 doubs, and Clayton Firestone and Zeke Keim lost 6-1, 6-1 to Mark Rich and Jack Steele at 2 doubs.
Wawasee’s JV also lost 7-0.
The Warriors slide to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the NLC.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 3, LAVILLE 0
Tippecanoe Valley’s shorthanded lineup finally got a win with a 3-0 decision over LaVille at home in Akron Thursday.
Payton Mills earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Zach Rutherford at 1 singles, Connor Frentzel beat David Clayton 6-0, 6-0 at 2 singles, and Ethan Yates won by forfeit at 3 singles.
GRACE VS INDIANA TECH
Grace’s men’s tennis team nearly knocked off Indiana Tech on Thursday.
The Lancers battled back from an early deficit in doubles’ play, but ultimately fell in the match 5-4.
Max Rozas and Pavle Popovic nearly led Grace to victory at Miller Athletic Complex. The pair dominated at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win.
Rozas went on to win in straight sets at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-4, and Popovic recovered from dropping the first set at No. 2 singles to win in three.
Diego Zamora was the lone other point for Grace, producing a hard-fought 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
Lucas Fonseca nearly pulled out a win at No. 5 singles before losing in three sets, and Zamora and Conner Bates were unable to rally at No. 3 doubles 8-6.
“We had a tough loss today, but we had a number of impressive individual performances,” said Grace head coach Andy Lewis. “It was great to see the effort the team put forth tonight, and overall I was very proud of the way we played.”
The Lancers’ next match will be at Huntington on Wednesday.
