WARSAW — When Warsaw police arrived at a local residence to serve an active warrant for drug charges, they reported finding enough evidence to implicate additional drug suspects.
Richard Lee Collins, 52, 920 Anchorage Road, Lot 89, Warsaw, is charged with maintaining a common nuisance, a level 6 felony and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. Michael Paul Hackworth, 42, 920 Anchorage Road, Lot 89, Warsaw, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. Cheryl Marie Matteson, 31, 1415 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, has an active warrant for possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. Elizabeth A. Goble, 53, 920 Anchorage Road, Lot 89, Warsaw, has an active warrant for maintaining a common nuisance, a level 6 felony and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
Police reported receiving information that Hackworth was located at a mobile home in the Shamrock Village mobile home park in Warsaw. Hackworth had an active warrant. Police said when they arrived on July 19, Matteson answered the door and denied Hackworth’s presence in the home. Shortly afterward, according to police, Goble came to the door and advised police she would put her dogs up. Police reported hearing Goble yell “where did he go?” Police then entered the residence and began to look for Hackworth. Goble told police she thought Hackworth was in the back bedroom, but then shortly afterward pointed outside to where Hackworth was in police custody after being spotted by officers when he fled the residence.
Inside the back bedroom, police reported finding Collins sitting on a bed and observed a methamphetamine smoking device at the head of the bed as well as other smoking devices throughout the room.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Goble told police that Hackworth and his girlfriend, Matteson, had been staying in the living room of the residence. Police observed drug paraphernalia in the living room and reported that Goble admitted to smoking methamphetamine and marijuana. Police said that Goble and Collins gave them permission to search the residence.
Officers found a loaded 16-gauge shotgun, as well as syringes, numerous smoking devices and bags containing methamphetamine.
Hackworth was arrested at the scene and Collins was arrested Sept. 4. Hackworth has a pre-trial hearing on Oct. 22.
