SYRACUSE — Skyler B. Kuta, 22, Syracuse, has been arrested in the hit and run death of Ronald L. Strieby, 70, Syracuse.
Strieby was struck by a vehicle, that left the scene around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. The accident was on CR 800N and CR 650E, near North Webster. Strieby was riding a bicycle westbound when he was struck by Kuta’s vehicle. Strieby was found unresponsive lying along the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s office.
Through the help of the community, police located Kuta Thursday evening. Detectives with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department received a call notifying them that after seeing this week’s Crime Stoppers post they knew of a possible suspect.
Detectives responded to an address on CR 500E, Syracuse, where they located a white 2007 Chevrolet 2500 HD Silverado with an extended cab. The vehicle had extensive damage to the passenger side front corner.
Speaking with Kuta, police learned he was driving on CR 800N at the time Strieby was struck. The driver advised he thought he hit a deer and admitted he did not stop to check what he hit, nor did he report the incident to law enforcement.
Kuta was taken into custody for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a level 5 felony.
