Grace Duo Earns Weekly Honors
WINONA LAKE – Grace soccer player Marcelo Talamas and volleyball player Alexa Hill were among the weekly honors for their play last week.
A game-winning goal by Talamas earned the sophomore forward the Crossroads League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Talamas was the hero on Friday for Grace’s men’s soccer team. He scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute to beat Manchester 2-1 in double overtime.
His goal was the first of his season, helping Grace to a 6-2-1 record to cap off the nonconference schedule.
The Lancers start the Crossroads League season on the road this week. Grace plays at Huntington on Wednesday and at Goshen on Saturday.
Hill was honored for an outstanding week as the NCCAA National Player of the Week for Grace’s volleyball team on Monday.
Hill had a well-rounded week with 10.3 assists and 3.5 digs per set. She produced a double-double in every match, including a 40-assist, 16-dig performance in just three sets against Bethel.
For the season, Hill has 696 assists and 148 digs to lead the Lady Lancers to a 12-5 record. She is currently leading the Crossroads League with 10.7 assists per set, which also ranks in the top 10 of the NAIA.
The Lady Lancers are on the road Wednesday with a match at Spring Arbor.
