Students Sought For KREMC Youth Tour
Kosciusko REMC is seeking current high school juniors, who are the dependents of KREMC members, to apply for the 2013 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
Two winning students from KREMC’s service area will have a chance to join other Indiana youth on this all-expenses paid trip of a lifetime.
Indiana’s electric cooperatives have hosted the Youth Tour since 1960, providing hundreds of young Hoosiers the opportunity to visit our nation’s capitol and learn about the federal government and the cooperative utility industry. The trip leaves from Indianapolis on June 12 and returns from Washington, D.C., on June 20.
The Indiana delegation will include approximately 75 students from throughout the state each selected by their local electric cooperative. In 2012, over 1,500 students from around the country were in Washington, D.C., for the conference.
The Indiana delegation will meet in Indianapolis on June 12 to get acquainted and learn about the Indiana legislative process. The students will depart early on Friday and spend their first evening in Gettysburg, Pa. They will tour the Gettysburg National Battlefield then travel to Washington, D.C.
Monday through Wednesday is a full schedule of sight-seeing, speakers, visits to the National Memorials, a collection of museums, including the Newseum, and a night cruise on the Potomac River.
Students will participate in a Monday morning “Youth Tour Rally,” where they will hear from Olympic Gold Medalist Mike Schlappi. Tuesday student will travel to Capitol Hill and visit with representatives from Indiana’s Congressional delegation.
