Edgewood Takes Both Conference VB Crowns
WARSAW – It was a banner night Wednesday for Edgewood’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams. Both clubs toppled crosstown rival Lakeview to win the respective Northeast Lakes Middle School Conference volleyball championships in the finals played at Warsaw Community High School.
The Edgewood seventh grade outlasted Bremen 23-25, 25-19, 15-9 in the semi-finals while Lakeview knocked out Wawasee 25-3, 25-8 in the other semi-final. In the championship, Edgewood came out on top 25-17, 25-16.
Lakeview (23-3) had Colette Blackburn post six kills, Clara Porter serve up 10 aces and Kenzie Chivington hang four aces, three assists and three kills in the championship match. Edgewood (25-6) did not report stats for the seventh grade game.
In the eighth grade battles, the same four schools were paired up, as Edgewood took down Bremen 25-18, 25-19 and Lakeview dropped Wawasee 25-23, 25-16. The championship matchup saw Edgewood win 25-12, 25-22.
In the championship match against Lakeview, Edgewood (18-7) had Katie McKibbin lead the team with five assists, four kills and three aces, and Kaylee Weeks spin three aces, two kills and two assists. Lakeview (26-5) had Caitlyn Patrick post nine kills and eight assists while Tessa Graney had eight assists, four kills and four aces and Madison Desenberg had six kills.
