Warsaw Man Sentenced On Six Charges
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was sentenced in Circuit Court Monday, Oct. 15, on charges related to drugs, driving while suspended and probation violation.
Aaron Hoffman, 34, 3434 W. Doe Court, Warsaw, was found guilty of two counts of dealing in a narcotic drug, level 5 felonies; driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor, possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor; as well as two probation violations.
On Monday, Jan. 15, police were investigating multiple complaints of an individual dealing methamphetamine. Hoffman, who was known to have an active warrant, was seen leaving the property and was stopped by police.
In addition to the narcotic warrant, Hoffman was also found to be in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia.
Court documents state that on Oct. 11 and 13, the Warsaw Drug Task Force conducted two controlled purchases of heroin from Hoffman. Funds were exchanged for 1/2 gram in the first purchase and 1 gram in the second purchase.
Hoffman said he is continuing to make amends and is working in a recovery program.
“I realize it has to be used in my everyday life,” said Hoffman.
Judge Michael Reed sentenced Hoffman to three years at the Indiana Department of Corrections for each of the two dealing in a narcotic drug charges, for a total of six years. The sentences are to be served consecutively. Reed ordered the last two years of the sentence to be suspended and served on formal probation.
For the charge of driving while suspended, Hoffman was sentenced to one year at the Kosciusko County Jail. For the charge of possession of paraphernalia, Hoffman received a sentence of 60 days at the Kosciusko County Jail. Those two sentences will be served concurrently but consecutive to his other sentences.
For the first probation violation charge, Reed ordered that the balance of a one year sentence be revoked. The remaining time will be served consecutive to his other sentences. Regarding the second probation violation charge, Reed revoked the balance of a suspended one and a half year sentence.
Hoffman received 54 days of jail time credit. Reed recommended that Hoffman participate in the Recovery While Incarcerated program. Reed added that he will consider a sentence modification at a later date if Hoffman remains conduct clear while incarcerated.
