Incumbents Prevail, One New Face On County Council
WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Council will soon have a new face in its ranks following the mid-term elections held nationwide on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Republican Michael Long ran unopposed in District 2 for the seat being vacated by Tom Anglin. He joins Republican incumbent Doug Heinisch from District 1 as two candidates running without opposition for the seven-person panel. Long received 4,606 votes and Heinisch garnered 6,369.
In the two opposed races, Republican Ernie Wiggins defeated Democrat Gary L. Schue in District 3 with 4,550 votes to Schue’s 1,584.
“I would just like to thank voters for their trust in me to represent them for county council,” said Wiggins after the results were in. “It’s bittersweet that Bob Sanders is not with us as he was a great public servant,” Wiggins added, paying homage to former councilman Robert Sanders, who passed away in 2017.
In District 4, Republican incumbent Jon Garber defeated Democrat David Morgan by more than 4,000 votes, 5,459-1,448.
“I would like to thank the voters of the 4th District for voting to send me back to the county council as their 4th District representative,” said Garber. “Additionally, I would like to congratulate the total Kosciusko County Republican ticket. As a county councilman, I pledge to do my best in trying to meet the needs of our citizens, while maintaining a low tax rate, currently recognized as the second lowest county general fund tax rate in the state of Indiana.”
