WARSAW 59, COLUMBIA CITY 35

Warsaw’s Tigers moved to 2-0 on the season with a 59-35 win over visiting Columbia City Saturday.

The hosts were locked in an 8-8 tie after the first period and led just 22-20 at the half before getting some separation with a 20-8 third period en route to the win. Warsaw converted 14 of 21 (66.7 percent) shots from the floor in the second half, including 5 of 5 3-pointers. Nolan Groninger dodged foul trouble to score 16 points and distribute five assists to lead his team offensively, while Jaylen Reese put up 13 points, and Tyler Metzinger scored nine points with six rebounds for the Tigers. Wyatt Amiss stayed hot from the beyond the arc by netting both of his 3-point attempts on the way to eight  points, five rebounds and three assists.

Warsaw converted 11 offensive rebounds into 15 second chance points in their second win of the week.

Columbia City got 10 points from Mitchell Wilson, and Bryce Taylor scored eight for the Eagles (0-2), who were held to 10-of-33 (30.3 percent) shooting for the game.

City hosts Fort Wayne Northrop next Friday night, when the Tigers play on the road at Homestead.

NORTHWOOD AT BUD BROWN CLASSIC

NorthWood’s boys basketball team bounced back from a 57-44 loss against Heritage Christian in the morning game at the Bud Brown Classic at Muncie Burris Saturday morning with a 63-45 win over host Burris in the final Saturday night.

The Panthers (2-1) jumped out to a 19-10 lead in the first period of its tournament finale, pushed that advantage out to 35-24 at halftime and led by as much as 22 points in the fourth quarter. Nick Bean scored 14 points to lead NorthWood offensively in the win, Trent Edwards collected 12 points and passed out five assists, and Brock Flickinger put up 10 as the third player in double figures for the Panthers, who knocked down 12 of 20 (60 percent) of their shots over the second half and had nine players in the scoring column in the game.

Jackson Adamowicz scored a game-high 19 points to lead Burris, and Grant Jones finished with 10 for the Owls.

The Panthers got most of their offense from Edwards alone in their opener with Heritage Christian as he scored 20 points to go with three assists. Ben Vincent and Bean scored eight apiece for NorthWood, which fell behind by 10 at halftime at 31-21.

Andrew Williams was a super-efficient 7 of 8, and Harrison Eckel was 6 of 8 as both scored 17 for Heritage, which knocked down 21 of 33 (63.6 percent) of its shots from of the floor on the way to the win.

NorthWood plays host to Triton in its home-opener next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

ANGOLA 30, WAWASEE 26

Wawasee recovered from a miserable first half, but couldn’t catch Angola in a road loss Saturday night at Trine University.

The Warriors were ice cold from the floor in the first half, shooting 2-15 and were scoreless in the second quarter, falling behind 15-6. Angola wasn’t exactly lighting up the Trine gymnasium, making just 6-15 attempts. Wawasee would recover somewhat in the second half, going 8-22 from the floor and outscored the Hornets 10-5 in the fourth quarter.

Austin Miller ended up leading Wawasee with nine points, five steals and three rebounds. A turnover-riddled Angola side gave up the ball 25 times, Wawasee coming up with 18 steals. Ben Hoffert had four steals and Kameron Salazar had three steals.

Dyer Ball had eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for the Hornets and Blake Pocock had eight points and six rebounds in the win.

Wawasee’s JV won 25-19.

Wawasee (0-2) visits Manchester on Friday.

LAKEVIEW 7TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL 45, WEST NOBLE 4

The Tigers had 13 players get into the scoring column in the rout, led by Andrew Potter’s team-high eight points. Lakeview moves to 6-1 on the season.

Kyler Johnson led the way for the Vikings with 15 points while Landon Durkes and Wade Jones each chipped in six points in Valley’s first win of the season.
