Whitko Artists Make Mark In International Competition
SOUTH WHITLEY — Art students from Whitko Jr.-Sr. High School showed their world-class talent in a recent art competition that featured the work of school-aged artists from around the globe.
The local artists participated in the 49th World School Children’s Art Exhibition in Taipei, China, Taipei. The competition included artwork from students in 41 countries. Of the 32 total awards garnered by U.S. artists, 11 hailed from Whitko. The competition is open to students ages six through 15.
Whitko students were honored with nine Selected Certificates and two Bronze Medals. Ryce Noragon and Chase Pulley were the bronze medal recipients and their work was displayed in Taipei and featured in a booklet of all the winning artwork submitted from throughout the participating countries.
The following eleven WJSHS art students received international recognition for their artwork::
Ryce Noragon, 15, bronze medal for “Perched;” Chase Pulley, 15, bronze medal, for “The Wonderer;” Erin Starkweather, 15, selected certificate for “Chillin’ Like a Villin;’” Bryce Tucker, 15, selected certificate for “Canyon Colors;” Patricia French, 15, selected certificate for “Self Expression;” Kayce Sims, 15, selected certificate for “Autumn Meows;” Alison Weeks, 15, selected certificate for “Independence Day;” Brett Sickafoose, 15, selected certificate for “Soar;” Summer West, 15, selected certificate for “Scarlet Sass;” Mayci Schlichter, 15, selected certificate for “Orpheum;” and Josephine McClure, 15, selected certificate for “Ponder.”
Whitko High School art students have received 40 state, 43 national and 202 international awards to date.
