PIERCETON — Business at the Pierceton Town Council meeting Monday, Dec. 10, continued the discussion on Axon cameras for the police department.

The council approved the purchase of the cameras at the November meeting. However, Town Marshal Tim Sammons presented the council with documents for the new system equipment and asked the members to sign them for final approval.

“A lot of agencies are jumping on board with Axon,” Sammons said. After the company receives the signed documents, it will take approximately 60 to 80 days until installation is done. This is due to the amount of law enforcement agencies getting Axon cameras installed.

Sammons and council member Tom Barker discussed Axon’s cloud-based storage system.

“I’m not against the system at all since I made the motion to approve it last month,” said Barker. “But I have had some questions about how the storage system works.”

Council member Mandy Espinoza said the contract should be signed but questions regarding the storage system should be answered.

“If the big cities are going with Axon, then obviously people like the system,” said Barker.

Sammons said he will continue to remain in contact with Axon and get answers on file storage.

During the meeting, Sammons said the Pierceton Police Department raised $539 through its No-Shave November program. All proceeds from the program will go to Pierceton Elementary School for unpaid student lunches. Sammons thanked the community and police officers for their support and participation in the program.

Sammons also thanked Alicia Elder for all her hard work putting together the Primitive Show held Dec. 1. Approximately 1,100 people attended the event. Officers will also be participating in Christmas with Cops at Meijer on Dec. 13. Selected children will have the opportunity to pick out clothing and toys alongside Pierceton Police Department officers.

Council member Mandy Espinoza asked Town Manager Chip Hill about the town’s equipment. He asked Hill to make a list of items he might want the council to consider purchasing so the council can be aware of potential purchases for future budgeting purposes.

In other business:

• The council thanked Hill for all his work in helping the town receive a Community Crossings grant.
• Santa Claus will be at the Lions Club on Dec. 21.
• The council will hold an executive meeting Dec. 17 and a year-end meeting Dec. 29.
• The council’s next regular meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.
