McDonald Sentenced For Role In Multiple Incidents
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was sentenced to more than two years in jail with most of that time to serve in multiple cases involving him being intoxicated and committing violent acts against multiple victims.
Alfred Walter Paul McDonald, 53, 602 S. McClellan St., Warsaw pleaded guilty Nov. 29, to intimidation, a level 6 felony; driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor; operating while intoxicated (enhanced), a level 6 felony; invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
The charges stem from multiple incidents, including a report received by police from June 11 that implicated McDonald in dragging a woman down the street by her hair and one that involved police stopping a vehicle and determining that McDonald had been driving while suspended and while intoxicated and also intimidating the other two occupants of the vehicle to lie about who had been driving.
McDonald appeared in Kosciusko County Superior Court I on Thursday, Dec. 20 for sentencing. He told Judge David Cates he regretted his actions.
“I’d like to apologize to the community and to the victims,” McDonald said. “I’d like to prove to society that I can be a better person.”
McDonald’s attorney, Matthew Buehler, told Cates that McDonald had accepted responsibility and asserted that with 176 days of jail time already served, perhaps the defendant had already served enough time for his crimes.
McDonald, through his attorney, also requested Community Corrections in lieu of serving time behind bars. In regard to McDonald’s Community Corrections request, Cates said “you had that chance and you blew it.”
Cates sentenced McDonald to one year in the Kosciusko County Jail for the intimidation charge. For the charges of driving while suspended and operating while intoxicated, McDonald received sentences in county lockup of one year and 60 dates respectively. Both of those sentences were to be served concurrently, or at the same time but separate or consecutive to the one-year sentence. For invasion of privacy and criminal mischief, each came with a 60-day county jail sentence to be served concurrently, but consecutive to the other sentences.
Cates told McDonald that if he qualifies, he could serve his remaining jail time on work release.
