Younis Primed To Take Over Triton Football
BOURBON – The Triton football program will have a familiar face back on the football sidelines as Rodney Younis has been recommended by the Triton athletic department to replace Ron Brown as head coach.
Younis has been the offensive coordinator for the program the past four seasons and was varsity head coach for 12 seasons from 2001-12. Younis’ work with the Triton offense as offensive coordinator led the Trojans to set a myriad of records for performance, and the team as a whole won nine games and a sectional last season, the most wins in program history and its first title since 2008.
Younis’ 42 wins during his first stint as head coach has him No. 1 all-time for wins at Triton, and the team won sectional titles in 2007 and 2008, the first two in program history. He was the IFCA Region 2 Coach of the Year in 2007.
Stated Triton athletic director Mason McIntyre of the recommendation, “Rodney Younis is a proven leader. We are excited to welcome coach Younis back as our head coach and are confident that he will continue to instill the qualities that will help our young men become winners both on and off the field.”
Younis’ hire is pending Triton school board approval.
Brown departs after a very successful run with the Trojans, taking a struggling program over in 2015 and compiling winning seasons in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, Brown was a finalist for the National Football Federation’s “Coaches Making A Differenceā€¯ award and also coached Triton to a three-peat in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference in wrestling. Brown announced his leave from the football program in December to take a new job in central Indiana.
