Metzger Drivers Earn Master Status
SILVER LAKE — Three employees of Metzger Trucking Company were recently recognized for their commitment and dedication as professional truck drivers. Kellie Walsh, the membership services director for the Indiana Motor Truck Association, awarded the master truck driver certifications to Bill Frantz, Scott Shireman and Dustin Carty.
The IMTA’s Master Truck Driver program recognizes the transportation industry’s top drivers who have compiled a career record of excellence through professionalism and service. This recognition is so prestigious that only 2 percent of commercial driver’s license holders will ever meet the qualifications to be certified as a master truck driver.
Frantz has been a professional driver for 43 years, a part of the Metzger and Son Trucking Company for 25 years and accident free for 14 years. In that time, he has accumulated 1,820,000 crash free miles. Metzger Trucking’s Safety Director, Cara Roe, said, “Bill continually demonstrates professionalism and safety and is a great representative of our company, most recently showing commitment to his job and compassion for others, by delivering a load of hurricane relief supplies to Panama City, Fla.”
Shireman has been a professional truck driver and crash free for 29 years, during which he traveled 2,700,000 miles. Also nominated by Cara, and expressed in his nomination form, she said “Scott is an outstanding employee of Metzger and Son Trucking Co. for 13 years. He is always willing to do what is asked of him. He is a great representative of our company.” Cara also said “Scott too, provided Hurricane Michael relief assistance by delivering a load of supplies to Panama City.”
Carty has been a professional truck driver for 15 and a half years, crash free his entire career and traveled 2,000,000 miles doing so. Cara wrote in his nomination form that “Dustin is a professional and courteous truck driver, easy going and always willing to help his fellow truckers and anyone who needs it. We appreciate his great attitude. As an example of his willingness to help and his selflessness, Dusty was driving in Virginia and came upon an accident involving an SUV landing on its top. While the state trooper removed the driver, Dusty broke the back window and rescued the child who was hanging upside down in their car seat.”
