Wawasee Iron Pride Wins Trophies At Plymouth
PLYMOUTH — Saturday, Feb. 2, at Plymouth High School, Wawasee Iron Pride took the tournament championship and skills championship in a field of 53 teams. Wawasee’s Iron Pride 574C and 574D allied in the elimination rounds to take home the trophies.
574C brought home the skills championship trophy for the seventh consecutive time in regular season. More importantly 10 of Wawasee’s 13 robotics teams made it to the elimination rounds. “It was great to see all the green up there!” said one Wawasee parent. “Wawasee has a growing program,” said head coach Jed Wandland, “We are continually adding students and teams to our roster and their competitive skills are increasing. I’m incredibly proud of the grit they showed today and their determination to improve upon their performance last week.”
Wawasee Iron Pride Robotics will be at East Jay County Middle School Feb. 9. The address is 225 E. Water St., Portland. There is no cost for admission. Opening ceremonies at 9:15 am, qualifying starts at 9:30 a.m., finals at approximately 2:30 p.m.

574C set a world record 32 driver skills score
574D set a team best 30 driver skills score, placing them second overall in skills at Plymouth High School
574E was undefeated in qualifications, placing a team best third overall ranking
574H, Iron Pride’s middle school team, placed a team best sixth overall, and was the second highest middle school team in robot skills
574C scored 41 points in two matches tying the world record match score
574J rolled their bot over more times at this event than any other while trying to park
10 of Wawasee’s 12 competing teams at PHS were in the finals
Round of 16 — 574C and 574D eliminated 574N and 2568S (34-6). 574B and 586B won against 574J and 587A (22-10). 574H, Wawasees Middle School team, and 2567A beat 53202C and 1193Z (18-14). 574F and 2567B lost to 775X and 775Z in a close match(13-10). 574E and 1233A beat 621C and 1530B (24-7). 574M and 491X beat 574A and 775Y (25-1).
Quarterfinals — 574C and 574D dominated 586B and 574B (32-5). 574H and 2567A won over 775X and 775Z (19-6). 574E and 1233A beat 574M and 491X (19-14).
Semifinals — 574C and 574D beat 574H and 2567A by the widest margin in the finals (38-4). 574E and 1233A double the score of 491A and 1233F (22-11).
Finals — 574C and 574D won against 574E and 1233A (36-1). This wide score does not reflect the level of play between these two alliances. 574E put up a great match.
