Ice Fishing Derby Back On For This Saturday, Feb. 16
SYRACUSE — While the snowmobile races were cancelled, Chautauqua-Wawasee is able to bring the Winter Carnival’s Ice Fishing Derby to Oakwood Resort this Saturday, Feb. 16.
Register for the derby between 6:30 and 7:45 a.m. Teams consist of either two adults for a $25 entry fee or an adult and a youth 15 years old and younger for a $15 entry fee. The derby will kick off at 8 a.m. and go to 2 p.m. The goal is to catch the 15 largest fish combined. There is a 15 fish limit and the largest combined weight of perch, crappie or bluegill wins.
The weigh-in begins at 2 p.m. with the award presentation immediately following. The first place winner has a guaranteed payout of $200. Second place will win $100. Third place will win $50.
The youth who catches the largest fish will win a St. Croix red and reel combination.
When it comes to money from the entry fees, 80 percent will be added to the payout with the potential to win more money and 20 percent will go to Chautauqua-Wawasee.
