UPDATE: Pilot Identified In Plane Crash
ELKHART COUNTY — Neal Myers, 55, Middlebury, has been identified as the pilot killed in a plane crash Thursday evening, Feb. 21, several miles from the Goshen Airport.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office reports at 8:08 p.m. Thursday, officers and emergency crews responded to a report of a plane crash. The plane had been reported down in a field approximately 550 yards west of CR 33, between CR 40 and CR 42. Callers reported observing the plane in the air and then crash into the ground, catching fire.
Myers was the only occupant of the aircraft. The plane he was flying was a private Pipe four-seat aircraft. Preliminary information is Myers was taking off and landing, practicing approaches, at the Goshen Airport when the plane went down. The plane crashed into a power line before hitting the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and the sheriff’s office was advised that the National Transportation Safety Board would be investigating.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office will have no further information regarding the incident.
