Five From Grace Named All-League
WINONA LAKE – Three members of Grace’s women’s basketball team appeared on the postseason All-Crossroads League Team on Wednesday. Additionally, two of the Lancer men were also tabbed to its respective All-League list.
Brooke Sugg, Vironnica Drake and Kamryn Hostetler all received mention by the league. Sugg was a Second Team honoree, Drake was named Third Team, and Hostetler earned All-Freshman Team accolades. Logan Godfrey was honored to the Second Team All-League, while Haden Deaton was Honorable Mention for All-League.
Sugg has topped 500 points this season and is averaging 16.4 points per game. Her 509 points this season currently ranks No. 5 in team history.
She already broke her own single-season record for 3-pointers made, drilling 84 triples to date. Additionally, she leads Grace with 2.8 assists per game and is averaging 2.0 steals per contest.
Drake is the league leader in steals, racking up 76 through 30 games. She is second on the team in scoring (14.7/game) and rebounding (6.0).
Hostetler has been Grace’s starting point guard all season as a freshman. The hard-nosed guard is averaging 9.5 points, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game. She is coming off a career-high 27 point performance against Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament.
Godfrey nearly averaged a double-double with 19.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. He shot 54 percent from the floor in the regular season and even averaged 2.2 assists, third-best on the team.
He led the Crossroads League in both rebounding and double-doubles with 13. He has already eclipsed 1,500 career points and may top 900 rebounds as well.
Deaton finished right behind Godfrey with a career-best 18.6 points per game. He shot 45 percent from the floor, 42 percent from the 3-point line and 77 percent on free throws.
Deaton primarily guarded the opposing team’s best perimeter player and still produced 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. He has scored in double figures in all but two of Grace’s games, including twice with at least 30 points.
The Lancers are preparing for the 2019 NCCAA National Championships, hosted by Grace. The Lancers will have at least one regional game before playing in the national tournament from March 13-16. For more information on NCCAA Nationals, visit www.gclancers.com/nccaa.
