Shoemaker Heading To Next Level At Trine
WARSAW – Warsaw multi-sport standout Matt Shoemaker has selected his next stop after his senior year comes to a close this year, announcing his intentions to attend Trine University and play football for the Thunder.
Shoemaker, a three-year starter for the Warsaw football program, flourished on the offensive front for the Tigers this year and earned Indiana Football Coaches Association Region II All-Star recognition along with being named First Team All-Northern Lakes Conference. The senior captain also set the bar by earning Wild Hog of the Week honors three times for the Tigers.
The force on this year’s Flexbone offensive attack, Shoemaker helped this year’s Tiger football squad set a single-game record for team rushing yards, breaking a 45-year old record. Warsaw’s 465 yards this year against Concord surpassed the 436 yards against Columbia City in 1973.
Shoemaker, a scholar athlete and returning starter for the Tiger baseball program, has also been a significant force in the community through his work with Feed My Starving Children, serving as a DARE Role Model, volunteering with the Warsaw Flag Football League and Warsaw Little League, and he has assisted as a volunteer with Miller’s Merry Manor.
Shoemaker intends to major in mechanical engineering and compete for the Trine football program and coach Troy Abbs. The Thunder are members of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the NCAA III. Trine is coming off an undefeated regular season and conference title.
