Trojans Back In Final Opposite Argos
BOURBON — The Trojans are back in the Sectional 51 championship game.
Shooting guard Tye Orsund had a senior moment for his team with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Triton jumped on South Central (Union Mills) early, leading wire-to-wire in an eventual, 45-29 semifinal win at the Trojan Trench. Triton advances to play Argos — a 78-26 winner over Oregon-Davis in another lopsided semifinal Friday — in the championship game, scheduled for an 8 p.m. tip-off in Bourbon.
Orsund’s team-high production came at an efficient 5-of-9 clip from the floor and 4-of-5 finishing from the free throw line, while Beau Hepler flirted with double figures with nine points Friday, and Tyson Yates, Ashton Oviedo and Lucas Richman each finished with six points for the home team, which turned the ball over just eight times.
Brendan Carr scored a game-high 18 points with seven rebounds for the Satellites (4-19), and Trent Hudspeth scored nine, but no other South Central player made a single field goal and the visitors couldn’t keep up with Triton’s deep production.
Meanwhile, in Friday’s early game, Argos scored 40 points in the paint and finished at a 29-of-54 (53.7 percent) clip from the field en route to the win. Sam Manikowski poured in 30 points — earned at an 11-of-14 rate from the floor and perfect 7-of-7 free throw shooting — while Owen NIfong notched 14 for the Dragons (20-4). OD (1-21) got 14 points from Dylan Murphy, who was held to 3-of-7 shooting from the field but managed seven free throws on eight trips to the line.
Saturday’s sectional finale is a rematch of a regular-season contest at Argos on Feb. 13, when the Trojans lost 46-35. Triton is playing for its first sectional championship in three years. The Dragons are playing for their first such title since 2005.
