The National Weather Service is forecasting a winter storm for much of northern Indiana and southern Michigan Tuesday. The NWS has now changed the Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Weather Advisory to take effect at 10 a.m. Tuesday. It is currently set to expire at 12 a.m. Wednesday.

The developing system could bring heavy snowfall and freezing rain with ice accumulations on Tuesday. The NWS is today forecasting heavy snow accumulations of 3 inches to 7 inches of snow possible mainly for areas west of I-69.

Blizzard warnings have now been issued for parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa.

The exact locations of the snow and ice locally are still in question and subject to change, but the NWS said it has enough confidence in the system to issue the Winter Storm Watch now. Travel throughout Tuesday will become hazardous.

The NWS predicts the system is expected to move into the area Tuesday morning and additional snow accumulations are possible Wednesday and even Wednesday night.

Indiana counties in the Winter Weather Advisory area are Kosciusko, Marshall, Elkhart, Noble, Whitley, La Porte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Lagrange, Steuben, Noble, De Kalb, Starke, Pulaski, Fulton, Allen, White, Cass, Miami, Wabash, Huntington, Wells, Adams, Grant, Blackford and Jay.
