Civil Complaint Filed Against Wawasee School Corporation, Former Coach
KOSCIUSKO — A civil complaint seeking damages against the Wawasee Community School Corporation and a former coach at Wawasee High School has been filed in Kosciusko County.
The filing relates to an incident that occurred between November 2013 and February 2014 and was investigated by the Warsaw Police Department and Indiana State Police.
Former Wawasee Coach Joshua M. Vallejo, 29, was sentenced in March on a charge of sexual misconduct. Vallejo was sentenced to six years at the Indiana Department of Corrections, with three of those years suspended in favor of probation. Judge David Cates told Vallejo at the time of the sentencing that he could serve those three years through work release or community corrections if approved.
The civil complaint states that at all times relevant to this complaint, Vallejo was employed by the Wawasee Community School Corporation and was performing non-delegable duties.
Although previous court documents state that Vallejo was a wrestling coach at Wawasee Community School Corporation, the complaint for damages filed states that he served as a volleyball coach.
The civil complaint states that as a result of the sexual molestation the plaintiff has suffered mental and physical damages and expects to experience future pain and suffering as a direct and proximate result.
