The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office recently held its sixth annual law enforcement field day.

KOSCIUSKO — The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted its sixth annual law enforcement field day, which offers training to all area police and sheriff’s departments.

The training was held on April 27 and May 4 and was broken into two sessions per day. Officers attending the event received six hours of in-service training and the training was held at Lakeview Middle School in Warsaw.

Officers completed all of the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board’s mandated yearly training in this one event. Topics included Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), autism, hazardous materials, domestic violence, mental illness, human trafficking and blood-borne pathogens. In addition to those topics, all officers completed a hands-on physical tactics and firearm evaluation that focused on officer survival and culminated in a practical exercise that placed them in a force-on-force scenario, which covered all techniques learned in the session. The training was scenario-based, placing officers in controlled scenarios that directly reflect incidents they may encounter during the course of their duties.

This year’s event was open to large and small departments from Kosciusko, Whitley, Wabash, Marshall, Fulton, Noble and Elkhart County.

Over 80 officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Lake Police Department, Milford Police Department, Mentone Police Department, Pierceton Police Department, Syracuse Police Department, North Webster Police Department and the Claypool Police Department participated in the training.

Instructors from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Lake Police Department, Milford Police Department and Lutheran EMS ran the training event over the course of both days, spending well over 20 hours putting the event together.
