Tippecanoe Valley FFA Livestock Judging Team Places Fifth In State
AKRON — On Saturday, May 18, the Tippecanoe Valley FFA Livestock Judging Team competed in the State Livestock Judging Contest at the Purdue Animal Research Farm, with 216 participants and 60 teams between the FFA & 4-H divisions.
The team from Tippecanoe Valley ended up 5th in the state and won a National Trip to North Carolina in late October to compete in the Southeastern Regional Contest. Members of the team were Shayleigh Shriver, Sarah Tucker, Mallory Bowers and Sydney Petersen. Competitors had to judge 12 classes of beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats, then give six sets of oral reasons to officials.
Bowers earned All-State honors by finishing 18th overall and was also the fourth high individual in sheep. Petersen was third high individual in swine and Shriver was tenth high individual in swine. Tucker was 16th high individual in beef and 16th high individual in sheep. As a team, they were fourth in swine, fifth in sheep, ninth in beef and ninth in oral reasons.
The team is coached by Kraig Bowers, Tippecanoe Valley FFA assistant, and Michael Jones Tippecanoe Valley FFA advisor.
