Warsaw City Council OKs Reviews Of Two More Firms For Tax Abatement
WARSAW — City council reviewed annual tax abatement agreements for two more companies Monday night.
The reviews are a regular effort to ensure the companies are meeting the expectations outlined in the tax abatement agreements.
In recent meetings, council reviewed and approved nearly two dozen other agreements with companies located inside the city, and others that have recently been annexed into the city.
On Monday night, council gave its OK to agreements with DePuy Synthes and Texmo Precision Castings Inc.
DePuy Synthes had abatement agreements in 2008 and 2011. The firm invested $7 million in personal property in 2008 and invested $3.5 million in personal property and $9.5 million in research and development 2011, according to Plan Director Jeremy Skinner.
Under an agreement with Kosciusko County, Texmo spent $2.3 million in real property, $2.4 million in personal property and hired an addition 31 employees. The agreement began three years ago. The company is located on East CR 200N, and was part of a larger annexation last year involving property near the city airport. As a result of the annexation, the city agreed to provide an abatement on the company’s city taxes for three years, Skinner said.
In other matters, council heard a request to vacate two alleys in a parking lot northwest of the county courthouse. County attorney Chad Miner said the county is seeking the change to help maximize parking on the block. City council approved the initial request, but and will consider final approval when it meets on June 13.
Council was also given a set of dates for annual budget sessions. The public hearing will be on Sept. 16. Adoption of the budget will be on Oct. 7. Reviews of budget will happen during council meetings in August.
Representatives of the Warsaw Community High School Army JROTC Department presented the colors at the beginning of the council meeting and recapped the fact they were recently reviewed and received the Honor Unit with Distinction status. They included Cadets Cpl. Preston Kohler, Command Sgt. Major Timothy Robbins, Staff Sgt. Isiah Muralles, Lt. Col. Katherine Josellis. The cadets were led by Major Friedrich Josellis.
