Patton, Dutkowski Officially North-South All-Stars
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association formally announced Wednesday night its selections for the 2019 Indiana North-South All-Stars.
The picks, which will come together for a weekend of baseball starting Friday, June 21, will play one another in games on Saturday and Sunday at Madison High School located in southern Indiana.
Warsaw catcher Liam Patton and NorthWood pitcher/first baseman Matt Dutkowski both were North picks for the All-Star game, which will be played at Madison in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, the final game a wood bat game. There will be several activities surrounding the weekend, including a Home Run Derby, autograph session and local entertainment providing by the fine people of Madison.
Patton had a fantastic season for the Tigers. The Wabash College commit was a standout for Warsaw this spring, leading the team in hits (44), doubles (11), home runs (6), RBI (28), batting average (.440) and on base percentage (.482). Defensively, Patton threw out 19 of 31 baserunners trying to steal, and made just two errors in 200 total chances, a .990 fielding percentage.
Dutkowski, who is signed to play baseball at Taylor University, was the linchpin for the Panthers this past season. “Dutty” posted a slash line of .423/.500/.577 and led the team in hits (33) and runs (22), was second in RBI (17) and struck out just seven times in 92 plate appearances. On the mound, Dutkowski was 5-2 with a 1.15 ERA and a 0.72 WHIP in 48.2 innings. He fanned 60 hitters and walked just four.
Also joining on the North All-Stars from the area include Mishawaka pitcher Grant Jablonski, New Prairie pitcher Hunter Robinson, South Central third baseman Kyle Schmack, Penn outfielder Brock Boynton and St. Joe outfielder Patrick Farrisee. New Prairie head coach Mark Schellinger will have NorthWood manager Dillion Weldy on the bench with him.
