Police Release Name Of Man Shot In South Bend Shooting
SOUTH BEND — St. Joseph County Metro Homicide has identified the person who was killed in last night’s shooting as 27-year-old Brandon Williams of Niles.
It happened at Kelly’s Pub on E. Mishawaka Avenue in South Bend, near Longfellow Avenue, just east of S.R. 23.
Sheriff William Redman said “over 100 upset and angry citizens” went to Memorial Hospital after the shooting, causing a lockdown.
In all, police say 10 other people were shot at Kelly’s. Of those, five remain in stable condition in area hospitals. The others were treated and released.
An autopsy on Williams’ body is scheduled for Monday morning in Fort Wayne.
Sheriff Redman says he has had several meetings about the possibility of increased violence and the safety of both police officers and the community. You can read the full statement above.
Police say the call came in around 2 a.m. that there were shots being fired at the bar.
This crime scene is pretty large. Investigators have the road in front of the bar and the parking lot in the back blocked off.
They say at the time of the shooting it was very busy. At least 50 to 100 people were in the bar or outside in the parking lot.
Separate incident
Police say there was a separate incident around 1:15 a.m. in the area of Lincoln Way West and N. Adams Street. They say officers were investigating a fight when shots were fired.
The officers and civilians took cover. No one was injured.
