Warriors Dodge Drops, RedHawks
SYRACUSE – In less than ideal conditions, Wawasee still managed to get the Northern Lakes Conference girls golf season off on a positive note Tuesday afternoon.
As rain pelted the Maxwelton golf course, Wawasee posted a 182 to defeat Goshen’s 216 in the NLC opener for both clubs.
Despite a waterlogged track and bunkers that were gaining water as the match went along, Wawasee had all four of its scoring rounds come in better than Goshen’s top score. Belle Brunner had the round of the day, shooting a 41 for the Lady Warriors.
Jadison Rostochak then led a tight grouping of Wawasee scores with a 46, followed by Valerie Haessig at 47, Tate Cowan at 48 and Taylor Cripe at 49.
Goshen’s Makenna Cripe had the visitor’s top score at 49, but the scorecards fell off from there for the RedHawks. Maya Narayan had a 52, Lauren Murphy shot 57, Stella Borden a 58 and Jenna VanderWey a 64 as the fifth score.
Wawasee’s JV was led by a 54 from Rhian Galloway.
Wawasee moves to 8-0 on the season and again serve as host for more NLC play Thursday when Warsaw and Northridge visit Maxwelton.
