Warsaw Woman Arrested Following Hit and Run Accident That Injured Pedestrian
WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was recently arrested for her involvement in a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a pedestrian.
Sheree Nicole Sisk, 33, 1024 Pike Shore Drive, Warsaw, was charged with one count of failure to stop after an accident resulting in injury, a level 3 felony and one count of causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle, level 6 felony.
On May 13, at approximately 11 p.m., Warsaw Police Department was dispatched to Anchorage Road near Shamrock Trailer Park in Warsaw, regarding a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. The officer found Carolyn Flores laying on her stomach near the west entrance of the trailer park. Flores suffered injuries on her lower body, including a broken ankle. Her left leg was also broken.
Sheri Courson and another woman were standing near Flores as the officer approached.
Courson said she and Flores were walking east toward the Meijer store when she heard a “boom,” and saw the grocery cart Flores was pushing roll away. She then saw Flores body land in front of her.
Courson said the car that struck Flores sped up after the impact and left the scene.
Moments later, Sisk contacted Warsaw Police department and said she may have seen a dog or deer enter the roadway, swerve to miss it and hit a utility pole or a mailbox. Officers went to Sisk’s workplace, Zimmer-Biomet, to speak with her and assess the damage to her vehicle.
While speaking with Sisk, an officer connected her story with the hit and run reported earlier on Anchorage Road.
An officer asked Sisk if she would consent to a chemical test. She agreed.
On May 14, the results of Sisk’s test showed 11-Nor-9 Carboxy THC — a form of cannabis — was in her system at the time of the Anchorage Road accident.
An officer interviewed Sisk regarding the Anchorage Road accident, following her chemical test. Sick said once again that a dog or what looked like a dog darted out from the trailer park. She said she swerved to miss the dog and hit something else.
After the impact, she said she looked in her rearview mirror but did not see a dog or anything else behind her vehicle. She proceeded to her intended destination.
Sisk pulled into the parking lot of her workplace. A coworker arrived at the same time. Upon seeing the damage to her vehicle, the coworker asked what she hit. Sisk, previously unaware of the extent of the damage, said she knew she hit something because her side-view mirror was gone.
Sisk said she did not have time to stop after the impact because she would be late for work. She said she was probably going 45 miles per hour on Anchorage Road at the time of the incident. To avoid being late for work she was “booking it,” said Sisk. She decided she would call police after a meeting at the start of her shift to file a report for insurance purposes.
Sisk consented to a search of her cell phone. An officer found a text chain between Sisk and another individual labeled “Jules” starting at 11:03 p.m., May 13. Sisk told the text’s recipient that she hit something but was not sure what she hit. She told Jules via the text that she was at work. She asked if she should call the police or wait it out. In the texts, she noted that the front end of her vehicle was “trashed.”
Flores suffered fractures to her shoulder blades, rib injuries, a pelvic fracture, a broken femur and two fractured ankles.
Sisk was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail, Sept. 20, with a bond of $3,000 surety and cash.
