KREMC Announce Delegates For Youth Tour
Kosciusko REMC is pleased to announce the selection of two delegates to participate in the 2013 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. The selections were made based on the students’ academic records, activities and volunteerism.
Margaret Holderman is the daughter of KREMC members Bryan and Shelly Holderman of Warsaw. She attends Warsaw Community High School, where she is active in a number of organizations including the high school volleyball team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Robotics Club, and the Academic Super Bowl Science Team. Margaret has also participated in two mission trips to Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
Nolan Sponseller is the son of KREMC members Bryan and Lisa Sponseller of Warsaw. He attends Tippecanoe Valley High School, where he is active in the Student Council, Key Club, National Honor Society and Christians in Action. Nolan is
also active in the Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy.
These outstanding students will represent Kosciusko REMC on the trip June 12-20, joining other Indiana youth. Indiana’s electric cooperatives have hosted Youth Tour since 1960, providing hundreds of young Hoosiers with the opportunity to visit our nation’s capital and learn about the federal government and the cooperative utility industry.
In 2012, over 1,500 students representing cooperatives from around the country were in Washington for the conference. “It’s a great trip and a wonderful chance to see the sights, make new friends and learn how everyone, even high school students, can make a difference in the political process,” said KREMC Communications Specialist, Katy Stegall.
The Indiana delegation will meet in Indianapolis to get acquainted and learn about the Indiana legislative process. The students will then depart to spend their first evening in Gettysburg, PA. They will tour the Gettysburg National Battlefield and then travel to Washington, D.C. The schedule is full of sight-seeing, speakers, visits to the national memorials, a collection of museums, including the Newseum, and a night cruise on the Potomac River.
KREMC is a member-owned Touchstone Energy® electric cooperative serving over 17,000 customers throughout Kosciusko County and into surrounding counties.
