Two Arrested In Cromwell Shooting, One Injured
CROMWELL — Gregoria R. Ibarra Rangel, Ligonier, was transported to Goshen Hospital by private vehicle after being hit in the leg following a shooting Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10331 W. 375N, just west of Cromwell.
Jonathan Hinojosa, 23, 5100 block South Campbell Avenue, Chicago, and Esteban Martinez, 35, 59000 block of Creek Ridge Court, Elkhart, were arrested at the scene. Both have been preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness as level 6 felonies. As of Monday afternoon, both remained incarcerated at the Noble County Jail on $4,500 bond each.
A Cromwell police officer advised Noble County Communications at 6:17 p.m. Saturday, shots had been fired at the West CR 375N, residence.
Preliminary investigations revealed a physical fight had started between two males, but was broken up. Shortly after, a second fight began with several people involved. In an attempt to end the fight, a relative of the property owner fired several shots into the air from a handgun. After the shots were fired, a second individual began yelling at the property owner’s relative and also fired several shots from a handgun. The second shooter fired his shots into the ground.
It was during the second round of shots Rangel was struck.
The matter remains under investigation by the Noble County Sheriff’s Department with the assistance of the Indiana State Police, Cromwell and Ligonier police departments, LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department and Noble County Prosecutor’s office.
