WCHS Band Places First At ISSMA Competition
WARSAW — The Warsaw Community High School Tigers Pride Marching Band had a second winning performance against six northern Indiana high schools this past weekend at Penn High School.
This year’s show, titled “Haka Peruperu,” featured an ancient posture dance of the New Zealand Maori that was traditionally used to prepare a war party for battle. The WCHS 60-person marching band prepares for a musical battle each weekend, and these first two competitions of the 2019 marching band season show the hard work they have put in. So far, the WCHS Tigers Pride Marching Band have dominated Scholastic A Class, according to a news release from the school.
The Sept. 28 performance marked the second competition where the Tigers Pride took first place with a score of 58.4. This performance earned the band top rankings for Best Music, Best Visuals, Best Effect and Best Percussion. During the first competition of the season, on Sept. 21, the band competed at the Concord Invitational with top awards. The band scored 51.95 to earn a first-place ranking along with Best Music and Best Effects.
The band will also be performing this Friday, Oct. 4, before the football game against Wawasee at 7:30 p.m.
The marching band is led by band director Mark Ziegler and assistant band director Kyle Travis, with assistance from Joe Peloza, Brandon Bussard, Reaghan Fletcher, Brad Nethercutt, Anna Marie Kelly and guard instructor Kelsie Hopkins.
