IPFW Deficit Leads To Job Cuts
An $8.5 million budget deficit is prompting job cuts at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
According to sources, IPFW will eliminate 39 full-time and two part-time positions through layoffs and attrition. The cuts are expected to be complete by the end of June.
The school says it is receiving less money from the state and is experiencing lower enrollment.
IPFW hopes to save more than $2 million through the job cuts, with the rest of the deficit being addressed through reductions in activities, utilities and services.
The school is planning to go ahead with a 2 percent tuition increase in the fall.
Word of the cuts comes after Purdue University announced a tuition freeze on the West Lafayette campus and the elimination of merit raises for most staff making more than $50,000.
